Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
In short: the free downloads and the website's calculator and checklists stay on your device, and we never see what you type into them. The apps (Balance Sheet and Ledger) store what you enter, including financial details, expenses and receipt photos, so that you and the people you share with can see it. A small number of our staff can also access it, for support, security, account management and legal reasons. We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and protect your forms, and no advertising or tracking cookies. We never sell your information, use it for advertising or use it to train AI models. Email us to get a copy of your data or close your account.
This Privacy Policy explains how remarQable LLC ("remarQable", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information in connection with Just Divvy: the website at justdivvy.com, the resources you can download from it, the Just Divvy apps (including Balance Sheet and Ledger) and your Just Divvy account (together, the "Services"). It is part of our Terms of Use.
1. The free tools and downloads
The spreadsheet and PDF worksheets work entirely on your own device. Names, values, notes and anything else you type into them are never sent to us, and we cannot see them. If you use the Google Sheets version, your copy lives in your own Google account and Google's privacy policy covers it, not ours.
The website's equalization calculator also works entirely in your browser: what you type into it is never sent to us, and it is gone when you close the page. The interactive checklists save your ticks in your browser's local storage, on that device only. They are never sent to us, and clearing your browser's data removes them.
2. Information we collect
Your account. Your email address and name; the role you choose (for example, spouse, parent, attorney, advisor or mediator) and, for professionals, a title; your email preferences; and when you signed in.
Balance Sheet. The information you and the others in a case enter: the names, email addresses and roles of the people in the case; assets and debts, their values, deductions and notes; proposals, agreements and comments; and a history of every change.
Ledger. The names and email addresses of the parents in a ledger; the names of the children expenses are for; expenses and payments with their dates, amounts, splits, descriptions and notes; requests to settle up; receipts you upload (photos and PDFs); and a history of changes. Because Ledger is for children's expenses, entries and receipts may show details such as medical, dental or therapy costs. They are handled like all other ledger information: visible to the people in the ledger, and to our staff only as described in section 6.
Receipts. When you upload a photo, we re-encode it, which removes camera and location data. We may also make a straightened copy of the receipt. We rebuild PDFs without scripts, forms or other active content.
Without an account. You can start a balance sheet or a ledger before signing in. What you enter is stored in the same way, linked to your browser (see section 4, Cookies) rather than to an account, until you sign in.
Access requests. If you ask for full access to an app (for example, to go beyond Balance Sheet's free limit), we collect your email address, name and role.
Waitlist. If you join a waitlist on the website, Formspree processes the form and sends us your email address. Formspree also receives the time you signed up and standard technical details, such as your IP address.
Emails you send us. Your address and whatever you choose to include.
Technical information. Our web server keeps access logs, including IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time, for 14 days. The app also keeps its own log of the pages requested and when, which is overwritten as space runs out, typically after a few months. We use these logs to keep the Services running and secure. On the marketing website, Plausible Analytics counts visits, pages viewed, downloads, referring websites and waitlist sign-ups. Plausible does not use cookies or store IP addresses, and reports only totals.
Feedback. The apps have a feedback button, provided by Userback. To show it, the apps load Userback's script on their pages, so Userback receives your IP address, browser details and the address of the page you are on as you use the apps, and, if you are signed in, your name, email address and account number, so that feedback you send shows who it is from and we can reply. If you send feedback or report a problem, Userback also receives what you write and any screenshot, annotation or screen recording you choose to attach. A screenshot or recording shows whatever is on your screen, which may include financial details, so check it before you send it. The button is not shown on sign-in and invitation links or on the page for adding a receipt from your phone.
3. Information about other people
The apps are used to share information with another person, so you will often enter information about people other than yourself: your spouse or co-parent, your children, and professionals you work with. For example, you may enter your ex's name and email address to invite them, or your children's names in Ledger.
- Enter only what the apps need, and only if you have the right to share it (see the Terms of Use).
- When you invite someone, we email them at the address you gave us, and they see the case or ledger once they join.
- We use information about other people only to provide the Services. We do not contact them for any other reason.
- If you are someone whose information was entered by another user, you can contact us to ask what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, as described in section 11.
4. Cookies
The apps use cookies that are strictly necessary for them to work:
- a session cookie that keeps you signed in, protects forms against forgery, and, if you start a ledger or a balance sheet before signing in, lets this browser open it; and
- a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in on this device for up to 30 days unless you sign out.
We do not use advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies, and the marketing website sets no cookies. Because the only cookies we use are necessary ones, we do not show a cookie banner. If you block cookies, you will not be able to sign in or keep a balance sheet or ledger you started without an account.
Other browser storage. Apart from cookies, some pages keep small amounts of information in your browser's local storage, on that device only: the website's checklists remember your ticks, and the apps remember small display choices, such as which tutorial tab you last opened. The apps do not keep copies of your cases or ledgers in your browser. On app pages, Userback's feedback button may also store an identifier and its settings there. Clearing your browser's data removes all of these.
5. How we use information
- To provide the Services: to sign you in, store and show your cases and ledgers, do the calculations, and send the invitations, sign-in links, digests and requests to settle up that the apps send
- To decide on requests for full access
- To provide support you ask for, and to reply to your messages
- To keep the Services secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms
- To understand, in aggregate, how the website and Services are used, so we can improve them
- To tell you about important changes to the Services, these policies or our Terms, and, if you joined a waitlist or chose to receive updates, to tell you about Just Divvy
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models.
6. Who can see your information
The people in your case or ledger. Everything in a Balance Sheet case or a Ledger, including entries, notes, receipts and the history of changes, is visible to the people in it, as the app's permissions allow. That includes the other spouse or parent, and any attorney, advisor or mediator added to the case. They may download, print or copy what they see, and we cannot control what they do with it.
Our staff. A small number of authorized remarQable staff have administrative access. They can view and export account and app data. They use this access only to provide support you ask for, keep the Services secure and working, investigate misuse, manage accounts (such as suspending, closing or exporting one, or changing its email address), and comply with the law. We record administrative actions that change or hand over data.
Service providers. These companies process information for us under their own confidentiality and security commitments, and only as needed to provide their service:
- DigitalOcean: hosts the Services, their database, uploaded receipts and backups, in the United States
- Mailgun: sends our emails, so it receives recipients' email addresses and the content of the emails we send
- Userback: runs the apps' feedback button, so it receives your IP address, browser details and the pages you visit in the apps, your name, email address and account number if you are signed in, and the feedback you send, with any screenshot or recording you attach
- Formspree: processes and stores waitlist sign-ups
- Plausible Analytics: privacy-friendly statistics for the marketing website
Legal reasons. We may disclose information when the law requires it, as described in section 7, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect someone from death or serious harm. To protect the rights, property or safety of remarQable, our users or the public, for example to investigate fraud or misuse, we may use or disclose account information, but not the contents of cases or ledgers unless the law requires it.
Business transfers. If remarQable is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. It will remain subject to this policy, and we will notify you before it becomes subject to a different one.
7. Subpoenas and court orders
Information about a divorce or separation can be relevant in a legal case, and we may receive subpoenas, court orders or other legal requests for it. When we do:
- We disclose information only when we are legally required to, in response to valid legal process, or in an emergency to protect someone from death or serious harm (section 6). We do not hand it over on informal request.
- We review each request to confirm it is valid. Where appropriate, we ask that it be narrowed, and we disclose only the information it requires.
- Unless the law or a court order prohibits it, there is an emergency, or we believe notifying could put someone at risk of harm, we notify the affected account holders before disclosing, so they have a chance to object or seek legal protection.
The other people in a case or ledger can already see its contents and may be asked to produce them in a legal case. Requests for information in a shared case or ledger are usually best directed to the people in it.
8. How long we keep information and how deletion works
- Accounts are kept until they are closed. You cannot delete your account from inside the apps. Email dev@remarqable.io from the address on the account, and we will close it for you.
- Shared cases and ledgers. When a person leaves or their account is closed, a case or ledger they share with someone else may stay available to the others. In that case, the person's side, name and entries remain in it. When we close an account, we ask whether each shared case or ledger should be kept for the others or deleted. Cases and ledgers that no one else uses are deleted.
- Started without an account. A ledger or balance sheet started before signing in is kept until you sign in, when it becomes part of your account. If you never sign in, it is deleted 90 days after its last change.
- History. The history of changes in a case or ledger is permanent for as long as that case or ledger exists, so that everyone in it can see what changed and when. It cannot be edited or deleted separately.
- Receipts. When you replace or remove a receipt, the earlier file is kept, and named in the ledger's history, until the ledger is deleted.
- Backups. We back up the Services regularly. Backups are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted, so deleted information may remain in backups until then. We do not restore deleted information from backups except to recover from a failure.
- Access requests are kept, so that we know who has asked and who has full access, until your account is closed or, if you asked without an account, until you ask us to delete them.
- Waitlist addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we stop offering the waitlist.
- Server logs: the web server's access logs are kept for 14 days; the app's own request log is overwritten as space runs out, typically after a few months.
- Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to deal with your message.
We may keep information longer where the law requires it, or where it is needed to resolve disputes, enforce our Terms or prevent fraud or abuse.
9. Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures to protect personal information. For example, the Services are served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS); sign-in uses single-use links and codes that we store only in hashed form, and codes lock after repeated wrong attempts; each case and ledger is visible only to its members; receipts are stored outside any public web folder and served only to the ledger's members; and administrative access is limited and recorded.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Because sign-in links are sent by email, keep your email account secure.
10. If there is a data breach
If we learn of a security breach that affects personal information, we will:
- act promptly to contain it and investigate what happened;
- notify affected users by email without unreasonable delay, and within any time limit the law requires, explaining what happened, what information was involved, what we are doing about it and what you can do to protect yourself; and
- notify regulators, law enforcement or others where the law requires it.
11. Your choices and rights
- Access and copies. You can see your information in the apps, download Ledger reports, and ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. You can correct most information in the apps yourself, or ask us to.
- Deletion. You can ask us to close your account and delete your information, as described in section 8. Because cases and ledgers are shared, deleting them affects other people. When you ask, we will explain your options, and some information may be kept for the others in a shared case or ledger.
- Emails. You can choose which Ledger emails you receive (all changes, requests to settle up only, or none) and turn off other update emails in your account. Emails needed to use the Services, such as sign-in links, invitations and important notices about the Services, these policies or our Terms, cannot be turned off. You can unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as the right to know what personal information we hold and how we use it, to object to or restrict its use, or to appeal a decision about your request. To make a request, email dev@remarqable.io. We will verify your identity, usually by confirming you control the email address on the account, and respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
12. Children
Our users must be 18 or older. The Services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents may enter their children's names and expenses in Ledger. That information is entered by a parent, is visible only to the people in that ledger and is used only to provide the Services. A parent can ask us to correct or delete it. If we learn that a child has given us personal information directly, we will delete it.
13. International users
Just Divvy is operated from the United States, and its information is stored mainly there. Some service providers process information elsewhere: Plausible in the European Union and Userback in Australia. If you use the Services from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above. If a change is material, for example if it changes how we use or share your information, we will email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect.
